Accreditation warning lifted at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE — Penn State President Rodney Erickson says an accreditation warning has been lifted for the university.

Erickson told school trustees that the Philadelphia-based Middle States Commission said Friday the university was in full compliance with all of its requirements, and that the commission has determined the school responded appropriately to the challenges that arose from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

Middle States had issued a warning in August based on the fallout from the scandal. Evaluators visited campus last month.

According to Erickson, Middle States said it was impressed by how the Penn State community responded to the scandal in emphasizing "unity and positive change over recrimination."

Erickson said Middle States was also impressed with changes in Board of Trustees structure, and the replacement of key leaders.
