Sunbury dad gets two years in prison following baby's death

SUNBURY — Nearly two years after the initial investigation into the death of 1-year-old Aneela Loner, the father stood in front of a Northumberland County judge on Monday and pleaded guilty to two charges.

Lopaka Loner, who wore a Northumberland County Prison jumpsuit, made no statement to President Judge Robert Sacavage before he was sentenced to up to 2 years for two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.

“This is an unfortunate loss of life,” Sacavage told Lopaka. “The community lost a member, and this has affected a great deal of people.”

Aneela Loner died from 20 hours of heat exposure after she was left alone in a small room warmed with an electrical device in October 2010.

The child’s mother, father and grandmother were charged with involuntary manslaughter 10 months after an investigation into the death began.

Sunbury police arrested mother Heidi Yocum, of Lewisburg, and grandmother Bertha Dreese, of Selinsgrove, in relation to the death. Both are awaiting court dates.
