Milton man charged with sexual assaulting an acquaintance

MILTON — A borough man who called a female acquaintance at 1:30 a.m., claiming he was depressed, is accused of sexually assaulting the woman after she went to his aid.

Willie A. Merritt, 25, of Broadway, is charged with aggravated indecent assault, indecent exposure and harassment following the June incident. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday in front of District Judge Richard Cashman.

Merritt allegedly called the victim and asked if she would pick him up at the Susquehanna Bank on South Arch Street and talk with him because he was feeling depressed, according to state police at Milton, who are handling the case. When she arrived at about 2 a.m., Merritt asked if he could drive and she agreed.

As the two passed outside the vehicle, Merritt put his hands down the victim’s pants, police said. She asked him to stop and he did, troopers said.

However, during a drive to the Ben Franklin parking lot, Merritt repeatedly tried to grab the victim’s arm and place it near his genitals, according to court documents.

When the victim asked why he was depressed, Merritt told her it was because doctors could do nothing for his back pain, police and court documents said.
