State lawmakers outline plan to shrink Penn State board

— HARRISBURG — Two Pennsylvania state senators say the Legislature should act to cut the size of Penn State’s board of trustees from 30 voting members to just 23.

Sens. John Yudichak and Jake Corman said at a news conference Wednesday that a smaller board would be more inclusive and more effective.

Their approach comes as Penn State is undergoing its own review of its governance structure.

A university spokeswoman says the school welcomes the input and notes some changes have already been made, including the removal of Penn State’s president and the Pennsylvania governor as voting trustees.
