SUNBURY — A petition posted on the White House website calling for the secession of Pennsylvania from the United States has garnered more than 15,000 signatures as of Friday evening.
Among them are at least 16 Valley residents.
The hotbed of secession fever? Selinsgrove, home to three secessionists — identified on the petition only by their first names and initial of their surnames: Kevin F., Kim G. and Nate R.
Elsewhere, there are two signatories from Herndon and Mifflinburg, along with petitioners from Sunbury, Northumberland, Milton, Winfield, Danville, McClure and Lewisburg.
Not all signatories include a hometown, and many of those who signed the petition asking that Pennsylvania be allowed to secede from the union describe themselves as residents of other states. The petition does not explain why people in other states want Pennsylvania to leave the United States.
The Daily Caller on Wednesday announced that the White House website “We the People” had received secession petitions from all 50 states.
