Route 11 reopens after police check reported gunshots

UPDATE [9:03 p.m., June 9]:

NORTHUMBERLAND — Mahoning Township and Point Township police determined a resident was firing his gun in a wooded area off Route 11 in Point Township this afternoon.

The incident did not endanger anyone and the resident is not facing charges.

Local and state police closed Route 11 from Ridge Road in Point Township to Route 54 in Danville while investigating a witness’ report of someone shooting out of a passing vehicle. The highway reopened at 4:41 p.m.

DANVILLE — State and local police closed a portion of Route 11 just south of Danville for less than one hour this afternoon  following unconfirmed reports of shots fired from a vehicle.

The busy north-south route was reopened at 4:41 p.m.

Police from several municipalies rushed to the scene on a witness report that one or two shots were fired from a passing vehicle.

There were no reports of injuries. Police combed through the area between Ridge Road in Point Township and Route 54 at Danville before reopening the highway.
