— SUNBURY — Two Valley congressmen agreed with Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner after he appeared on several national talk shows over the weekend preaching that the party needs to “do a better job of getting its message out.”

“There’s nothing wrong with the principles of our party,” he said on national television. “But Republicans have not done as effective a job as we should in terms of talking about our principles in terms that average people can appreciate — why balancing the budget, as an example, would be good for American families. We’ve got to do a better job of helping people understand what our principles are in terms that they deal with every day.”

U.S. Reps. Lou Barletta and Tom Marino agreed with their leader.

“I agree with him, and we need to do a better job and show how people can personally benefit from our ideas,” Barletta, R-11 of Hazleton, said. “I agree our principles are right, and the president’s policies aren’t working, and we need to do a better job showing it to the American people.”

Marino, R-10 of Cogan Station, agreed.

“I’ve been pushing this message every time we meet,” Marino said. “I will also be honest in saying I believe all the leadership needs to do a better job. I think most of our congressmen do a good job getting information out in their districts, but I agree we need to break things down better for people.”

When Marino reports back to the 10th District, he said he tries to break down trillions of dollars to average family salaries.

“I try to make sure people understand what the dollars and cents mean,” he said. “Instead of saying Obamacare doesn’t work, let’s start using the A, B and C reasons why and address them with the solutions we have.”
