Cheers: To residents of Union and Snyder counties, who according to last week's health report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, were among the five most healthful in Pennsylvania. The institute evaluated Pennsylvania's 67 counties on more than two dozen factors the researchers believe influence a person's health. They include individual healthy behavior markers such as obesity and smoking, as well as social and economic factors like education, violent crime, health care access, family support, education and unemployment.
Cheers: To the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership and the Green Dragon Foundation, nonprofit organizations that made the Top 10 in the debut of an online fundraising blitz last week. Combined they raised about $43,000 of more than $725,000 donated to such groups in five Valley counties. The Lewisburg groups participated in Raise the Region, a 24-hour online campaign. Thirty-seven donors gave to the downtown partnership, which garnered $22,233; with 59 donors, the foundation gained $20,575, according to the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania, which sponsored the event with Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships.
