Today's Rave: The World Series, who ya got?

The Daily Item

— The World Series kicks off tonight in Boston with the American League champion Red Sox hosting Game 1 against the National League champion St. Louis Cardinals.

The Series features two of the more historic teams in Major League history. The Red Sox ended their famous World Series 86-year drought – dubbed the Curse of the Bambino – in 2004 when they swept the Cardinals. The Red Sox also won the title in 2007.

The Cardinals are appearing in their third World Series since 2004, winning titles in 2006 and 2011.

St. Louis is making its 19th World Series appearance and its 11 titles are the second-most in baseball history behind the Yankees’ 27 titles. Boston is making its 12th Series appearance, winning seven times.

More than 180 readers voted in a dailyitem.com poll on which team they thought would win the World Series. What did the poll prove:

More than half of the voters think the World Series will end in six games (97 of 181)

Only 8 percent of voters (15 of 181)  think one team will sweep the Series.

Nearly 15 percent of voters (26 of 181) think the Series will go all seven games.
