Today's Rave: Toomey talks repeal

— U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey said this week that the President’s national health care plan is increasing the costs for customers.

“We need to go to individual ownership and patient control that will lead to lower costs,” Toomey said during a town hall meeting in Danville.

The statements drew reaction on both sides. Here are some local comments:

“The affordable Health Care Act has helped us tremendously with the cost of my husband’s many medications and is now helping me with my diabetes supplies. Our health insurance rates doubled way back in 2004 - four years before Obama took office around the time many companies stopped offering healthcare to their workers to save the profits for top management, so Obama cannot be blamed for the rising cost of the health care industry!” – Marjorie Heintzelman

“They tried to repeal this almost 40 times. When you do same thing over an over and expect a different result that’s the definition of insanity. Wasted more time on this bill than doing anything else. Maybe repeal those rich congressmen’s pay and insurance paid for by the taxpayers.” – D.J. Fox

“I am responsible for purchasing health insurance for my small company. Our premiums have gone up 10 to 30 percent every year for the past eight years - that has NOTHING to do with Obamacare.” – Steven Patterson

“People who do not have health insurance and go to ERs or doc visits for treatment and never pay their bill are one of the reasons healthcare costs go up. Everyone is entitled to healthcare no matter if we have pre-existing conditions or not. All employers should offer their employees health insurance regardless of hours worked.” – Alecia Moore Cummings

“Well-informed voters already knew that Obamacare would be disastrous for the economy back in 2012. Private health insurance will most likely double. Some of the corporations that contributed to Obama's re-election campaign were given exemptions from Obamacare. All we can do now is hope that it is repealed. I honestly feel that the majority of Democratic voters thought it would be free.” – Brian LM

“If the health industry and this administration wasn't corrupt then I might believe costs would go down.” – Billy Walborn

“Should we give it a chance before we jump off the ledge? How much lobbying money do you suppose Toomey gets from the insurance lobby?” – Gloria Walker
