Today's Rave: Cheers

Cheers: To all those who helped serve dinner to the less fortunate on Thanksgiving. In Sunbury, Rhonda Fisher and her “angels” fed more than 600 people. In Danville, St. Joseph Catholic Church opened its school doors to help for the 30th consecutive year. In addition, there were special holiday meals in Watsontown, Selinsgrove, Northumberland, Mifflinburg, Middleburg, Lewisburg and Beavertown.

Cheers: To Meadowbrook Christian School in Milton. The school earned accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools after six years of work. The honor will benefit future, current and former students of the school. All Meadowbrook alumni are now graduates of an accredited institution and meet the requirements for some graduate schools which have that as a threshold for diplomas. The school can also now have its own chapter of the National Honor Society.

Cheers: To students at St. Joseph School in Danville. The students broke the school’s previous record for giving during the school’s Operation Christmas Child, which provides gifts to needy families. The school usually collects 100 boxes between the school and the church. This year students collected 139 boxes of goods with another 57 boxes collected by the church community.

Cheers: To the Lewisburg Green Dragon Foundation. Thanks to a generous memorial gift from the family of Bruno Garisto, the Green Dragon Foundation donated more than $12,000 to the district, designated to help with the fall production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” The Garisto donation, in memory of the former Weis Markets vice president, was a portion of the a $12,006.46 gift. Lewisburg’s fall play included a cast of 35 students. They were able to buy additional stage make-up, all costumes and props needed to put on the elaborate performance.

Cheers: To a pair of good samaritans who helped police nab an alleged burglar in Millersburg. Two witnesses called State Police at Lykens after they saw someone break into the Millersburg Pharmacy and the alarm sounded. One of the witnesses followed the alleged burglar on foot. After the burglar returned home, witnesses waited outside the residence until police arrived.

Cheers: To Ernie and C.J. Tyler. The father-son duo were honored by the Heartland Athletic Conference recently. Ernie Tyler was named the HAC-I Golf Coach of the Year after leading the Braves to their second consecutive division title. C.J. Tyler, a senior, was one of three Shikellamy players on the first-team all-star squad, along with Raven Fatool and Dakota Portzline. C.J. Tyler won his third District 4 individual title in a row this year.
