Value of independence

Some people have questioned the value of registering as an independent voter. They point to the fact that independents do not vote in the primaries. ....more>>

  • God's creatures
After reading the story on snakes in the park, I felt compelled to write. Snakes are very misunderstood creatures. I believe it has something to do with the Bible's reference to them in Genesis as being the creature that talked Eve into eating the apple.

  • Acts of cowardice
It is time to call a spade a spade. Since the first of the year, severely disturbed men in Boston, Maine, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Kansas and Florida have committed murder in the name of their cause -- as a matter of fact, twice in Florida.

  • Move fountain
I've lived in Sunbury my entire life and remember well the controversial fountain. I also remember the deplorable state of neglect into which it was allowed to fall.

  • Walking talk
In response to the recent allegations concerning Pastor Jose Rosa, who has been missing since May 21, our prayers are with his family, his congregation and especially the children's lives that have been marred by these sinful and reckless acts.

  • The best from the worst
Tragedy and adversity can bring out the best in people. This was quite apparent when my business was lost to fire this past Tuesday evening at Fetter's Meat Market in Milton.

  • Zero tolerance
I have zero tolerance for child molesters, and here is why: Child molesters are thieves. They rob children of their innocence, their self-esteem and self-worth.

  • Wrong project
As a resident of Sunbury, I've been following the story about the proposed alterations to the city park. I do not agree with these at all, except for maybe adding the fountain. The monuments should stay as they are, as they balance both ends of the park.

  • Pigeon shoots
Because nearly all of the 50 states except Pennsylvania have banned the use of live pigeons or animals for target practice, a few Pennsylvania gun clubs have become the killing fields for out-of-state shooters who cannot legally use live animals or birds for target practice in their home states.

  • Worthwhile investment
I read with interest Gina Morton's recent article "Potential recruits failing standards." This article references the fact that retired military leaders are now recognizing what law enforcement has seen for years -- the vast benefits of early childhood education.
