Few voters

Even though taxpayer groups around the state are urging voters to reject the Act 1 Resolution in the May 15 primary election, don't be too surprised if it passes with flying colors, because voter turnout in many off-year elections is generally light, especially in the primaries; and those who do vote tend to be older.

School districts would then be given the green light to lower property taxes and increase earned income taxes. Both of these actions would benefit older taxpayers who own property but no longer have earned income from hourly wages or salaries.

Although Act 1 is revenue neutral to school districts, it will not be the same for individual taxpayers; and members of the ever-shrinking workforce in Pennsylvania will be affected the most now and in the future, until the legislature finally passes meaningful tax reform that is fairer to more taxpayers.
