I noticed on the Selinsgrove school district Web site there's a "Request to use a different bus route."
To gain approval, the change must be able to be provided by using established school bus/vehicle routes at no additional cost or additional mileage to the school bus. The school bus must have available seat capacity for additional students. The requested loading or unloading zone for the student does not have to be at the same location, but the student must use the same bus for transportation to and from school, with a few exceptions. Requests will only be considered if unassigned seats are available. Individuals making the request will be expected to present a regularly assigned work schedule or custody order. The request must involve a consistent and regular change for the entire school year. Approved changes will remain in effect for the school year unless documentation of a change in status is provided at least two days in advance of a new request.
It's amazing how all of a sudden there is going to be a shortage of seats. I've watched six buses going through Meadow View Estate Development every day and every one of those buses is a quarter to half full. Sure seems like Selinsgrove transportation director Pete Carroll is doing a fine job at filling those buses. I've also seen several buses that go across Route 522, and out of every 10, one may be close to full. It's time the taxpayers in Selinsgrove district crowd the board meetings and demand that the safety of the children comes first. All the more reason to pull kids out of public school and home school them.
