Thorny issue
I share Frank J. Germain’s views on the sanctity of life and likewise have some pretty deep reservations about both abortion and euthanasia.
However, not everyone in this country sees things the way we do, and freedom of religion means they’ve got the same right to their views as I do to mine.
But I am also curious whether he feels the same way when it comes to the death penalty (Vengeance is Mine, saith the Lord), and/or war. Pope Benedict XIV is opposed to the Iraq war but innocent lives are lost in both cases. And if it is not for us to take a life, then at the very least dropping a bomb or doing anything else where women, children and the elderly are likely to get hit would also be against God’s wishes.
Another question I have is what if, God forbid, something went horribly wrong in a pregnancy and a woman’s life was in danger, or if she got pregnant as a result of being raped?
And in addition, I want to know who provided Mr. Germain’s facts on both Roe v. Wade and Obama’s position, because in both cases his statements are wide of the mark. Finally, while these are obviously complex issues with no easy answers, we’ve got an awful lot of other important stuff confronting us right now. Don’t you want a president smart and capable enough to lead us out of the mess we’re in — not just in deeper?
