Choose life

I just finished reading the story about the young man who was killed, wished to be an organ donor and his parents did not want to honor his last wishes. I think that this young man was very mature, courageous and unselfish. He chose to give life, even though his was gone.

I understand the parents' grief, but if they had thought about it, through him, many more people could live on. Yes, their son is gone, spirit gone to heaven, but his earthly remains and the life they have to offer others, would keep parts of him living on through them. Think about this, once the body has ceased to live, all you have is a shell. Bury that body and it decays and has nothing to offer. Donate those organs and life will continue for a son, father, mother or daughter.

I am proud to say that I have chosen life, I am an organ donor, as is my husband. I have also asked my children that in the unimaginal event that they die, what do they want done? Two of my children chose life and although I disagree with the third one's decision, I must honor his wishes and will not donate his life-giving organs. This man was 21 years old, he chose life, I think his parents should feel proud and honored that they raised such a selfless, caring, giving person.

I can only imagine the sorrow he would feel, if he was here today to witness the dispute his gift of life is causing. God bless his soul, may he rest in peace. I also pray that his parents will come to terms with their loss and the decision of their son.
