Nothing to celebrate We are again preparing to celebrate our national holiday, Columbus Day. And I have to again ask myself ... Why? Why are we still celebrating the second-place runner up? Chris was not the first to "discover" America. The Vikings had done that a couple hundred years before. Besides, Columbus never even set foot upon what is now the United States. He was too busy island-hopping in the Caribbean telling the natives how lucky they were because they were now discovered. We need to celebrate an event that we can truly call our own -- the landing on the moon on July 20, 1969, or The Wright brothers' first powered flight in 1903. Matthew Santis, Middleburg
