I've read your articles regarding Shikellamy's interest in possibly acquiring turf for the football field at the stadium. While I am an avid supporter of all things Shikellamy, I feel there is an issue which also should be given some consideration by the school district which directly affects not only football, but also baseball, field hockey, boys and girls soccer, cross country and track and field.
Numerous times while working in the soccer concession stand, I have been approached by individuals from Shikellamy as well as the visiting families and team members, asking where the restroom facility was. It is embarrassing to have to point to the football stadium and inform them that they need to travel to the stadium in order to use the restrooms. I've even been asked "are you kidding me?"
It is an embarrassment of sorts to have such nice fields, football stadium and school and not have restrooms available for use by the players, parents or visitors to the fields. I feel there is ample space and capabilities to create a public restroom which could include running water and a baby changing station area as well as a handicap stall which would accommodate everyone's needs.
Perhaps our Vo-Tech students in the plumbing, masonry, carpentry and electrical departments would be willing to build such a facility as one of their projects. I'm sure that local suppliers would be willing to donate supplies and needed materials at a reduced charge or possibly no charge if they were asked to do so.
While I support the football team's endeavor in having a turf field installed, installing restrooms which serves multiple sports of Shikellamy would be a welcomed addition to the complex and wouldn't break the bank in the process.
