This entire Moran Industries project and the consequences it may have in regards to council, the city and even to the county is a shining example of why government shouldn't get into bed with corporations.
This all began with the good intentions to develop the property and bring jobs and economic growth to the city. And we all know what road that leads us down.
Moran had power to lobby for tax exemptions because it promised jobs. Where are those jobs?
Now both the city and county have a vested interest in that project and may have broken the law in order to see it succeed.
Had they never sold their souls in the first place, the separation of government and business would have remained clear, and the code enforcement office wouldn't have had an apparent conflict of interest.
What I am saying is that if we leave private industry to thrive or fail on its own, we do not create situations like these where elected officials may find themselves "invested" in projects that may compromise their integrity, their morals, and ultimately the law.
