More than $5,000 raised to fight hunger

The last step, the most pleasant one, to be taken by the 2013 Danville-Riverside CROP Walk Planning Committee is to congratulate and to thank individuals and businesses for a job well done in making the 2013 CROP Walk a success. Sixty people walked this year and raised more than $5,000. Because we all worked together, people locally and around the world will have food to eat in 2013.

The Danville News and The Press Enterprise were very helpful in letting people know about the Walk and its importance. Many area television and radio stations also helped the community become aware of the Walk. The

committee also thanks the many community members who took the problem of hunger seriously and offered their

services. Danville’s dedicated police and fire police saw to the safety of walkers. Thanks to the Danville Recreation Authority for use of Hess Field as a starting place for the walk. Thanks also to St. Paul’s Methodist Church and Shiloh United Church of Christ, for offering rest to weary walkers and to Deb Enright for marking the course and supplying maps for the walkers.

Our thanks again to everyone — walkers, sponsors, recruiters, volunteers, businesses, contributors and those who lifted the walkers up in prayer; if anyone was inadvertently omitted, our apologies and of course our thanks. Together we have done more to feed others than any one of us could have done individually.
