Doing right thing

The God, that Republicans and Right Wingers love to embrace, provided we the people with the knowledge that polluted air and water are bad; that same God provided us with a sense of decency and fairness which means that we understand that child labor and unsafe working conditions are wrong, and that it is sinful to purposefully circumvent those standards for profit.

So why is it that with such God-given knowledge, elected officials of the Republican Party support trade agreements that allow U.S. corporations to import products from nations who choose not to meet any of our manufacturing standards and safe guards? Why is it that elected Republicans bow down before America's rich and powerful as they try to circumvent federal regulatory agencies for financial gain?

Everyone knows that our public welfare programs are being cheated and manipulated, yet when Republicans' held power they never put forth any laws for real change. Apparently, providing adequate investigators, educators, and supervisors so that public welfare recipients' can be more closely monitored and expected to perform community service as payment for aid received would have meant more "Big Government", and thus violated Republican tenets. Republican President Coolidge was quoted as saying World War I vets were unpatriotic for pursuing a war service bonus. Republican President Hoover used force of arms against those same vets when they sought that bonus during the depression. The financial needs of war vets always seem to come after the needs of corporations during Republican administrations.

Doing the right thing doesn't mean doing the Right Wing thing.
