In mourning

Daily Item

---- — I am in mourning for my country. I have a black banner over my doorway and am flying my flag upside down -- the signal for distress.

I intend to remove the banner after one week, which is common practice, but the flag will fly in distress until both our executive and legislative branches demonstrate that they can solve our problems. Their performance to date has been at grade-school level and unless they can demonstrate some intelligent performance we could well be headed for revolution and anarchy.

I gave four years of my life in defense of that flag, and I will not abandon what it stands for. Unfortunately, you are no longer living in your father's country! There is a completely new social demographic in play. The current message is no longer "give," it is "take."

Witness the explosion of government workers (paid by your tax dollars) whose sole objective is to see how many people they can sign up for free government services -- food stamps, disability, etc. Have you ever asked one of your representatives or senators exactly how many people are employed in that bureaucracy and how much their salaries -- and the services they are pushing -- contribute to the national debt, which your children and grandchildren are going to pay for?

Please pray for all our government leaders -- it's quite obvious that need all the help they can get.
