Impeach the court

In December of 2011, I wrote a letter to the editor sounding the alarm regarding SB. 1867, introduced by Senators Levin and McCain. This is the bill that permits military personnel to enter your home or anywhere you are, take you into custody without charges and detain you indefinitely. Unfortunately, most of you did not pay much attention and the majority of that bill became the law of the land on Dec. 31, 2011, when President Obama signed the National Defense Appropriation Act for 2012.

At a meeting of the Susquehanna Conservatives, with both Congressmen Marino and Barletta in attendance, I asked that they introduce legislation to repeal Section 1021 of the law. Neither did so and Congressman Marino has not responded to at least four requests to meet and discuss this issue.

Someone braver than all of us by the name of Christopher Hedges, filed suit against the president and the case went all the way to the Supreme Court.  However, according to the Supreme Court’s website, Mr. Hedges’ application was denied on Feb 19, 2013, and it is my understanding that the Supreme Court declined to hear his case last month.

Recently, the Supreme Court has granted citizenship to corporations and special interest groups so they can “buy” elections (Citizens United). Next, they declined to curtail the activities of the NSA, a clear violation of our Fourth Amendment rights (Clapper vs. Amnesty International).

By declining to hear Mr. Hedges case, they have violated his, and our collective First Amendment right, “to petition the Government for redress of grievances.”  This deliberate inaction is so egregious that I feel the Court has met the standard of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Therefore, I am publicly requesting that the House of Representatives initiate impeachment proceedings against the entire Supreme Court.

I don’t think any of us should tolerate the establishment of our country as a police state.

Daniel L. Kuruna,

Middleburg
