Disappointed in opinion

— I am sure that many other readers across the political spectrum were also disappointed that The Daily Item could not muster a serious editorial comment about the legalization of gay marriage in Pennsylvania. A day and a half after the ruling that permitted many of thousands of devoted Pennsylvania couples to marry for the first time, the best this paper could offer was the calculatedly non-committal “To all who will recite their marriage vows in the coming weeks and months, we simply say, ‘Congratulations.’” This is not even a comment about gay marriage, the apparent topic of editorial.

Why not tell us whether or not you are happy to see this expansion of fairness and happiness in the commonwealth? If you don’t have an opinion, maybe you shouldn’t write an editorial. If you’re afraid to own up to your opinions in front of your readers/customers, consider going into a different business than newspaper publishing.

Ben Marsh,

Lewisburg
