Thank you for your recent article drawing attention to the new Voter ID law, which will affect 8 percent of Valley voters who may be banned from voting in November if they do not have a current Pennsylvania driver's license.
However, this article contained a serious error that voters should be aware of. It is not true that all PennDOT driver license centers in our area offer free non-driver photo ID cards.
The office in Lewisburg on Route 15 does not provide this service, and the closest PennDOT centers that do are in Selinsgrove or Williamsport.
However, volunteers from the Union County branch of Organizing for America and the Union County Democratic Committee are offering free transportation to Selinsgrove or Williamsport to any voter, regardless of party affiliation, who needs assistance obtaining a photo ID.
If you need a ride, or can offer rides to others, please call John Peeler at (570) 428-5843. Also remember, in order to get a state photo ID, voters must provide: (1) a Social Security card; (2) either a birth certificate, valid passport, certificate of citizenship or certificate of naturalization; and (3) two proofs of residency such as tax records, W-2 forms, current utility bills or mortgage/lease documents.
