Unrealistic expenses

When I saw the stories I was speechless (this is saying a lot for me!!)

Selinsgrove needs $21,000 needed to finish the dugouts. What is wrong with this picture? The dugouts were started 2 1/2 years ago. Never start a big project, unless the money is there to start and finish!

Why does everything have to match the high school? There are much cheaper and equally good shingles available. Also, the concrete floor should have been poured before starting the blocks (which are too high!) It is a dugout -- not the Taj Mahal. The kids will probably destroy them before five years go by and have to start over!

What they need more are bathroom facilities for the players and spectators.

Why do they need a handicap walkway from North Broad Street to the dugouts? There are good sidewalks already in place and the handicapped people don't need to be in the dugouts. I walk with a walker and I can get there if I needed to!

Then in the Local section of the paper was an article for Danville asking for $5,200 for a costume! That is outrageous!

For less than $1,000 you could put a costume together and have one that could be adjusted for height and weight.

A pair of workpants, an orange denim workshirt with name "Ironmen" the art department could stencil on the pocket and the back of the shirt, a pair of work boots, a used or new hard hat with the logo again stenciled on by the art department would work.

When the pants or shirts starts to wear out or someone outgrows the outfit -- it will be easier and less costly to replace.

Sometimes the younger generation thinks money grows on trees. Use some common sense!

Yes, it will be nice to have a mascot, but more than $5,000 is too much. I'm surprised more people are not having trouble with the cost. In this economy it is not realistic.
