Early Childhood Development

As Carol Hoffman describes in her recent article, "Birth to Two -- A Busy Time in a Child's Development," the time between birth and 2 is a period of discovery unparalleled in later life. Tremendous physical growth and brain development occur and early literacy skills are learned.

Parents can look to any of the public libraries in The Daily Item circulation area for support in their role as their child's first teacher. Your library is a center for early childhood information, parent education, socialization and reading readiness. Libraries offer age appropriate spaces, materials, programming and opportunities for parents and children to begin learning together.
