The Daily Item
On April 9, Alex Hribal ran through the hallways of Franklin Regional High School stabbing 21 students and one security guard. The tackling of the assailant by assistant principal Sam King ceased this gruesome tragedy, and the necessary charges were filed against Hribal. It was expected that all of the victims, and Hribal himself, will survive.
Incidents like this and other violent acts are an explanation for why schools normally emphasize the prevention of school violence. Hribal, using a knife, proves that various weaponry can cause just as much damage and danger as guns. That being said, not having to worry about experiencing any tragedy like this, especially at school, is a universal desire.
A solution to these situations is the enforcement of strong security systems in schools. These solutions include adding video cameras, security guards, and metal detectors in the hallways. Additionally, these systems should be in all school districts, not just ones as large as Franklin Regional.
What should be remembered from this is that vicious acts can happen anywhere, and that anything may be used by the perpetrator as a weapon.
