In 2003 the Union County World War II Honor Roll was dedicated in Mifflinburg and interesting that it's 10th anniversary falls in line with the county bicentennial. The last faze is being planned with hopes of adding seals to honor the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
If you would be interested in helping this cause you can contact the Union County Veterans Foundation at 1009 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837; by phone (570) 524-4367 or online at www.unioncountyveteransfoundation.com
I would like to point out there are 2,260 names on the wall that who served from Union County. Many times people forget towns like Swengel, Cowan, Mazeppa, Dice, New Columbia, White Deer, Weikert, Laurelton, Hartleton, Forest Hill and Allenwood are part of our great county. Names on this honor roll represent all of these wonderful towns.
The Veterans' Day program this year is scheduled for 11 a.m., Nov. 9 at the monument in Mifflinburg. Rep Fred Keller will be the guest speaker.
It should be another great ceremony and especially in this bicentennial year. We hope to see you there.
If you can't make the program, take time to visit this monument and understand how many from Union County served during WW2 and that many gave the ultimate sacrifice.
