An unfortunate fate

I was recently passing through the small town of Palmer, Mass., and saw this old school being subjected to an unfortunate fate.

As we in Lewisburg consider what to do with the old high school, I hope the school board and the borough will not let this happen to it. The school is far from an architectural gem, but it sits right on the main gateway to downtown. If the financing for some worthwhile community use (such as the Community Center) cannot be arranged, I hope the borough will have the wisdom to condemn the property and demolish the building rather than let it fall to low-end commercial use. It could then become a park, or even be sold for new residential properties that would pay taxes.  Either of those options would be better than a downscale mall.

John Peeler,

Lewisburg
