Start supporting people

Daily Item

---- — In our community, we have problems with bullying: cyber, physical and verbal. Bullying can occur for many reasons. Some students believe it's fine to pick on others because they don't fit in.

It's not just students, its adults too. They think that if people don't conform to the environment, then they need to change them.

Well, adolescents -- and adults, for that matter -- shouldn't have to change to fit the expectations of others. It's not right for a person not to be allowed to be him or herself. They shouldn't be penalized for being different.

If we want to get rid of bullying and help prevent it, we need to stop persecuting people and start supporting them. Instead of putting others down for what they do, support them in who they are and what they do well. If you let people be themselves, they will be happier. If a person isn't constantly bringing others down, there wouldn't be as much bullying around schools and communities.

Another way to help prevent bullying would be to create an anti-bullying group in your school or area. It's easy and creates a safer environment for your peers, young or old. An anti-bullying group or club can bring the dangers of bullying to the attention of others and help make the area a better place for everyone.
