Still preaching hate?

In response to the particularly ignorant reaction to the news that same-sex marriage is now legal in Pennsylvania, I would just like to say that you are mistaken about a number of things.

First, the percentage of LGBTQ individuals in America is nearly 4 percent. This is just the percentage of people who are open about their sexual identity. It is because of people like you that thousands more hide who they really are every day because they are afraid of being judged, harassed, and preached at?

Secondly, I hope that one day you get the chance to come to know and love someone who is gay, because I’m fairly certain that after you realize they are no different from you, you won’t readily tell them that God is going to destroy them.

Thirdly, and most important, no matter how dearly you cling to your Bible, it is not the Constitution of the United States. A lot of things have changed in the 2,000 years since the Bible was written, and no amount of twisting the words and meanings found within it will allow you to discriminate against and hate a whole group of people.

Yes, it’s 2014, and I think it’s about time that everyone realizes that in order to stop spreading the hate and judgment, everyone ought to take their noses out of their Bibles and really look around and see the heartache, desperation, and self-loathing that their judgmental words and actions are causing. Next time you feel like preaching, please examine yourself first, and realize that you are in no position to tell anyone who they should or should not be.
