MW budget won't include tax increase

MIDDLEBURG — A $34.56 million spending plan that carries no tax increase is expected to be approved at tonight’s Midd-West School Board meeting.

The budget for 2014-15 was tentatively approved in May, with directors Ronald Wilson and Ronald Hoffman casting the only opposing votes.

There was little discussion about the spending plan when it came up at a public meeting earlier this month.

District business manager Lynn Naugle has recommended the board use money in an existing fund reserve to cover the $530,000 deficit rather than raise taxes by 2 mills.

If the board adopts a $34,568,977 budget without a tax hike, the district’s real estate tax levy will remain unchanged at 70.112 mills.
