Once again, kudos to Pat Bruno for an apropos, dead-on My Turn (Feb 8). This state still does not regard child neglect as child abuse, hence the ridiculously low annual rate reported most recently of 8,000-plus abused kids per year.
As Pat points out, child neglect accounts for 75 percent of child abuse, so there are really some 32,000 cases in Pennsylvania per year. At first, I had hopes for the new Attorney General, but to this point little or nothing has been done.
One cannot hope that this legislature and governor will do anything. Throw-away kids don’t merit attention in this state. After all, helping them out would be a hardship for the rich!
