Advocates for the extremely well off argue that corporations cannot hire more employees until consumer demand improves. But of course, the other side of that coin is that consumer demand cannot improve until there are more good jobs.
So, it seems that we are in a game of chicken to see who blinks first: large, wealthy corporations who are just sitting on their cash, or the rest of us. Something has got to give. Profitable corporations need to stop whining, step up, and lead the country to better economic times. They need to hire now.
