At first, Jeff Russell's letter in The Daily Item (For whom the poll tolls, Oct. 18) made me laugh. His suggestion that we must choose between freedom and affordable health care is nonsense -- a false choice.
But as I thought more about it, he has a point. Once the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented, people will no longer have the freedom to be irresponsible. For generations, people without health insurance would stick the rest of us with their medical bills when they got sick -- no more. Everyone will soon be required to look out for themselves and their families.
