How ironic that members of the Republican-led Tea Party refer to themselves as "patriots." There is nothing patriotic about shutting down the government because you don't get your own way. There is nothing patriotic about refusing to raise the debt ceiling, threatening the nation with economic catastrophe.
I have no quarrel with Republican principles. Although I generally disagree with them, I believe America needs a strong two-party system. But this latest debacle wasn't about principles; it was about tactics, and the tactics the Tea Party chose to use were despicable.
