I feel that some of the people running for election this year have lost sight of why they are running for office. To me it seems that there is a group of people who only want to bash other candidates. No one who runs for office should be bashing the other candidate. It should be about what you want to do to improve the way of life for the people in the area and what your qualifications are. People are fed up with negative politics. If you can't run on your accomplishments you should not run.
In the city, for example, we have a group of people who think they can cut 75 percent of the taxes and fees and still provide necessary services to our citizens. Well, that is just not realistic. City officials have worked very hard every year to keep taxes as low as possible. In all the years I have been involved in government, there has never been a more negative pre-election season. This is a small city and everyone should work together for the good of all. I am proud say the Republicans are not being negative and there are lots of things that could be said.
In the county we have some tensions as well and we need to work together to do the best we can for Northumberland County. It is so important to get out and vote and support the Republican candidates. We need to make government as good as it can be.
If you want to be in office it should be for positive reasons, not for all the things you think the other person did wrong. I was always taught that people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
