State should expand Medicaid

As of now, Pennsylvania does not plan to expand its Medicaid program and Governor Corbett has hinted that he might change his mind and support the expansion in the future, but so far, he remains opposed. We need Medicaid expanded for hard working families now.

Pennsylvania has a dwindling opportunity to improve the lives and health of hundreds of thousands of residents by using Medicaid Expansion from the Affordable Care Act. You are hearing more stories about Pennsylvanians who are struggling to make ends meet and then loosing affordable health care they so desperately need.

Accepting federal funds to expand Medicaid in Pennsylvania will give PA families the security of knowing they can get the health care they need and at the same time boost our economy, create jobs, and help keep the doors open at the hospitals that serve our residents.

Expansion, which the Affordable Care Act promotes, would provide coverage to 350,000-600,000 more Pennsylvanians under 65, including 49 percent of uninsured veterans. Our state capitol in Harrisburg is full of organizations and regular citizens who are asking for our elected officials to provide affordable care for thousands of people across the state.

I just saw a recent cable talk show that featured AARP, other experts and state officials discussing why Medicaid expansion is needed in Pennsylvania. They said hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians will continue to lack the health coverage they need if nothing is done. We need to make sure that people have access to real time care.

You can help by asking your elected officials to accept the federal funds to allow Pennsylvania to expand Medicaid.
