Losing the Old, Out with the New

The Daily Item

— As this New Year dawns

You’ve all kinds of hope.

For changes to occur in you

That are of grandiose scope.

You vow to others

To lose your great girth

Though you’ve become attached

It is time for rebirth!

Like shaking the blues

You strive with great gusto

‘Til you’re alone with the cookies

And you realize you must! Oh!

You can’t have the candy.

These foods you’ll not sneak!!

It is going to be so tough

To shed pounds of your physique!

To be stronger next time

You must have a plan.

These Sugarplum Demons

Will not ruin this man!!

So, it is celery and apples,

Even hard-boiled eggs

To satisfy my darn cravings...

It is water by the kegs!
