What makes a successful, thriving school system? Without a doubt, first and foremost: Skilled teachers.
We need to hire and retain skilled teachers to educate our children. We also must preserve programming in the arts and creative disciplines.
In response to the aging of the Lewisburg Area High School, the school district has proposed a grossly expensive construction project — one requiring significant financing — and has misrepresented it as the only available option.
In fact, according to the district’s own feasibility study, it would be much more cost-effective to improve the existing structure through renovation and addition.
Were this prudent strategy pursued, the money saved could be more wisely spent on maintaining a high-quality teaching staff and protecting creative programs.
I can think of no better way of safeguarding the justly deserved stellar reputation of the LASD.
