A huge difference

Both political parties tax and spend. However, they differ in how and who they tax and for what they spend. Democrats prefer taxing the wealthy and the corporations with a progressive tax, and Republicans prefer taxing the working class with regressive taxes.

The federal graduated income tax that taxes higher incomes with higher tax rates and lower incomes with lower tax rates is a progressive tax favored by Democrats.

The Pennsylvania 3.07 percent flat rate income tax, the 6 percent sales tax and taxes on gambling, along with local, county and school per capita taxes are all regressive taxes favored by Republicans that impact harder on working-class families than they do on the rich.

Democrats like to spend for social programs, such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid that benefit working class families. Republicans prefer to spend for things like national defense and weapons of war that enrich corporations and the very wealthy.

The latest transportation funding plan for repairing Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges calls for increases in motorists’ fees and hikes in the gas tax that will impact harder on workers and their families, but doesn’t tax the profits of corporations. Actually corporate taxes are being lowered or eliminated.

Yes, both political parties tax and spend, but there is a huge difference between the kind of taxes that are levied and how the money will be spent. Democrats prefer taxing the rich to help the poor, and Republicans prefer taxing workers to benefit the rich.
