Danger on the sidewalks

I am a Boy Scout with Troop 325 in Northumberland. One of my requirements is to write to the editor of a newspaper about an issue I’m concerned about.

Every morning I have to walk to my bus stop, and when it’s warm weather it’s nice. But when it’s snowy, I don’t want to get up. The reason is I am afraid of falling, and it’s just hard to walk to my bus stop now with the snow.

Don’t get me wrong, I love snow. But walking through it on a place that is normally safe to walk on is now dangerous. Sidewalks were made to keep adults, kids, and everyone off the streets so they don’t get hit by cars. The streets are plowed over and over, but what about us, the people who have to walk on it?

If there is a law stating you have to shovel and salt your walks, then it should be enforced, similar to laws about stealing. This law is just as important because this could cause serious injuries that could end lives.

Broken necks, arms, shoulders, or legs, these could all happen to someone. As a matter of fact, this could happen to you!
