Rarely does a week go by without seeing or hearing about some kind of bullying in schools. We all know bullying exists and that it has been around for a long time. Most of us have had exposure to some form of bullying in our lifetime.
Most schools try to inform students on how to react if they know someone who is being bullied or if they are being bullied themselves. However, there are other issues that need to be looked at more closely. For example, I recently read about a mother who stabbed her two son's bullies in their backs with box cutters. I also read about a mother who choked her daughter's bully in a mall.
It is common for parents to take on a protective nature when their child is in danger. However, they should remember that they should be setting a good example for their children. They should be teaching their kids that they cannot justify one act of violence with another.
It seems to me that the education of bullying shouldn't be limited to just students. It should go outside the school grounds with the intent of a nonviolent solution. I believe that there should be some kind of information class that parents could go to that would inform them about the proper way to handle a bullying situation.
