The Daily Item
I always enjoy catching up on the viewpoints of my fellow Daily Item readers. However, one letter in particular has really lingered in the conscience and has compelled me to respond. On Feb. 15, the opinion section featured a letter criticizing Sen. Pat Toomey and his stance on Obamacare.
Clearly, the author of this off-base letter has long supported the flawed health care plan, but facts are facts. And the facts are: millions of American’s have lost health care plans that they were perfectly happy with because of Obamacare. Moreover, the clownish rollout of the website on which people sign up for Obamacare has made it incredibly difficult for anyone to enroll. The enrollment figures back-up this point.
Additionally, this letter indicates that Obamacare would grow employment opportunities. This is simply not true. Actually, companies are already indicating that they will be cutting hours for existing employees and limiting full-time opportunities thanks to the costly mandates included in this law.
Finally, a report done by the nonpartisan CBO presented another startling point. People will be less willing to take full time employment because the increased income may disqualify an individual from federal health care subsidies. Basically, government is dis-incentivizing productivity.
I applaud Sen. Toomey on his efforts to repeal all and the most onerous parts of Obamacare. It is hurting the economy and infringing on the rights of people to pick a health care plan that best fits them.
