Job requirements

The fighting among public officials in Northumberland County has reached new heights and as a future resident of the county I was appalled to learn that one of the commissioners could barely read English. It must take a ton of unmitigated gall to run for office, get elected, and represent people of a complex society when reading the language of the people is a huge task.

Where is the common sense of the voter in that county? It is the voter's fault, not the official's.

Maybe that is what is wrong with the entire political system; some of the elected are not capable of making intelligent decisions. Watching debates between both parties on issues that are life-changing is like watching a student argument in a middle school cafeteria.

Donald Wright,

Allenwood
