Kudos to John Finnerty for his well-written and thought out story. The work of the task force on child abuse and safety has started pretty well, and one has hopes that it will continue, without partisan interference. Time will tell.
Cynicism regarding effectiveness is hard to dismiss, given the distance to go, the likely recalcitrance of the legislature, and the inherent lethargy of many people regarding this issue. One wonders: Who will keep the feet of the committee folk to the fire, so to speak, or do concerned citizens such as Dr. Pat Bruno and I get to perform that function?
Will the new Attorney General really pitch in on this, or was this mostly election rhetoric? She hasn't said much yet. There is no such thing as an acceptable incidence of child death from abuse and neglect in this state, but you would never know that from the grossly under-reported figures put out from Harrisburg.
I for one am going to keep agitating for real change until a great deal is done. I say "a great deal," because there is a great deal to do.
