As a senior at Midd-West High School, I am extremely distressed by the reputation my school is getting through the media. It's a shame that Midd-West has such a negative name due to current events such as bomb threats, bullying, etc. Most students of Midd-West High School get up early every morning to attend school, receive an education, and do what they need to do to prepare themselves for the real world, just like any other school. Each district has problems, which do not need to be publicized for the world to see. It does not just happen here at Midd-West. Other local schools have been mentioned lately due to bullying and I am sure they are equally annoyed by the media focus making them look bad. It is important to address behaviors such as bullying, but publicizing this behavior in the newspaper is not the best way to address the issue.
Our school has many positive features: We have a brand new builing that has an immense amount of technology, teachers that go above and beyond to give us the best education they can provide, sports programs that succeed, and so much more. We have students who do good things and represent our school very well, but you do not publish this on the front page. Our school's faults are published, but the successes are not front page worthy. The poor choices of a few students should not be used to suggest the climate of our entire school.
As an honor student, I can say that I have received a great education here at Midd-West and I would like everyone to know that it's a great school, with good people, doing great things.
