Helping those in need

— Mazeppa is where I grew up and will always be home. Where you wave to someone going by in a vehicle whether you know them or not and your neighbors are always there for you no matter what

For decades the Mazeppa Union Church has held its “world famous” ham and egg supper and in recent years has donated all the profit from the supper to Camp Victory. I typed that right: all profits go to Camp Victory. This kind of unselfishness is what we Mazeppa folks are accustomed to and quite frankly is just the way you are supposed to be. When pondering this I quickly think of groups that are supposed to be charitable organizations, yet take their administration costs out before passing along what is supposed to be money going to those in need.

This certainly is not the case with the Mazeppa Union Church and so many to thank. The supper would never happen if it weren’t for the organizing skills of Clarence and Erma Roush. Then there are all the volunteers who help to peel the potatoes the night before, the ones who make the meal, and those who help to serve it. Barb Troester, who always mans the bake sale, and of course, all the wonderful folks who show up and support this wonderful event.

Along with the outreach program, Mazeppa’s Manna, the Mazeppa Union Church is a shining example of what can be done to make a positive change in this world. Emerson once penned, “to know that even one life has breathed a little easier because you have lived, that is to have succeeded.” The Mazeppa Union Church truly is a success !
