---- — As this election season drags interminably I have come to believe that the greatest political lie has been indelibly stamped on we, the few, who make up the electorate of our diminishing republic. We watch as candidates like President Obama and Mitt Romney are the best we can come up with.
Another hideous choice comes in the U.S. Senate race between Bob Casey and Tom Smith. I would wager that many people forgot Casey was our senator so void of any accomplishments these past six years. Tom Smith seems sincere but has learned the lie I mentioned earlier. All of these candidates as well as many others (most) like to tell us they know what we are going through. This being a family paper I can not state my heartfelt response, but let's just say they can't possibly know. If they knew, insurance reform would be to make medical care about medicine once again. If they knew, they would work to find viable, repeat, viable forms of renewable energy so we wouldn't be paying double the cost of gas that we were paying one month into the Obama presidency.
The high cost of gas doesn't affect only drivers it raises the costs of manufacturing and transporting products from inception to delivery, making everything more expensive.
If they knew what we were going through, our tax codes would be simplified and made more equitable for the average person. Or possibly they would notice that many who are working hard for every cent are tired of paying for those who are on the dole and are capable of taking care of themselves.
Undoubtedly we need better from our leaders. Sadly I'm not sure we've earned it.
